One of the things I want to implement is monthly 'town hall' where students sit across from the councillors and other VUSAC representatives, able to ask questions and speak their minds. Having a say in the communitt promotes student engagement as they can see the changes they asked for being implemented. Furthermore, I'd like to send out bimonthly forums to the Vic students, asking for anonymous feedback!
When applicable and appropriate, I would publicize current issues that VUSAC is addressing and inform the VCU of ideas we have for events. I'd also work to realize my digital suggestion box idea, an online platform where students can anonymously (if they so choose) propose new ideas, address concerns, and provide vital feedback. I would also look for new, innovative ways to send out notifications to students. I have heard that for many it is a challenge to keep up with the constant slew of university emails and others are disinterested and unattentive towards emails. I would look into methods of spreading information that are engaging, eye-catching and enticing to interact with.
Great question! I would promote active student engagement in decision-making processes by sending out regular email blasts, instagram polls, google forms links on Posters around campuses and more! It could also be worthwhile to send out an email blast to all Vickies asking how they would llike to be contacted and use the responses from that survey to plan accordingly.
I have to say, I am loving the different ideas promoted by some of the candidates! I'm excited to have the opportunity to serve with them soon!
To engage more VCU students in VUSAC decision-making processes, it is important to provide various modes of participation to allow students to find the most comfortable option for them.
For example, one more can be implementing an open discussion board and/or anonymous form for VCU to provide their input on any matter like past-events or future initiatives.
Additionally, VUSAC can organize regular Town Hall meetings specific to larger initiatives to provide a designated space for feedback and opinions.
Lastly, every VUSAC meeting should be regularly announced across all social media platforms as open to all VCU students to encourage student engagement directly to decision-making processes.
Hi,To promote more active engagement from students at Vic regarding the decision-making processes, it is crucial to utilize widely used social media applications, including Instagram, Twitter, and Discord, to keep students updated. By doing so, students will find VUSAC and its hosted events more approachable, encouraging more active engagement. Another way to get more students involved is by incentivizing them to participate and engage during VUSAC-hosted events. For example, VUSAC could host events like a pizza party, trivia night, or movie night, where students must have a valid confirmation that they have participated in the decision-making process or any events hosted by VUSAC where we want maximum student engagement.Thank you for the question!Albert Deok-Hyun Ahn.
I believe that the current level of student engagement at Vic is quite limited, primarily involving those who are already actively involved. To promote active engagement, it is crucial to ensure that our student body aspires to inclusivity and diversity. This way, we can move closer to making decisions that truly represent the entire student population. While some strategies have been implemented, they could benefit from better promotion, such as this open forum.
To achieve this, I propose a focus on raising awareness of these valuable resources through more accessible platforms like Instagram or an email newsletter. Clear and easily accessible links should be prominently featured on these platforms. Additionally, fostering greater engagement with commissions, levies, and clubs could involve promoting the excellent work students are doing through various events.
I also believe it's essential to involve more students beyond VUSAC in its initiatives. This could begin by simplifying the language used in meetings (or providing summaries afterwards) to make it more understandable to the general public. Expanding our outreach in events, conducting surveys, and feedback forms, and incentivizing participation through prizes and awards for active students would also be effective strategies.
Furthermore, we should introduce more celebratory events that represent our diverse student body and ensure they are accessible to all Vic students, creating safe and inclusive spaces for participation.
There can be many ways to engage with students in an effort to include them in the decision-making processes.
One method of promoting student engagement is to include digital student forums such as voluntary questionnaires sent through student emails or to utilize Instagram or other digital platform question boxes.
Hi, Dhir! This is a extremely important question, I appreciate you asking this.
Promoting active student engagement in decision-making processes is crucial for ensuring that VUSAC represents the interests and concerns of the student body effectively. Some stratregies that I believe could assist in this matter are as follows:
Online Platforms: Utilising online platforms such as social media, discussion forums (like this one), and dedicated websites to engage students in discussions and polls about relevant topics. This allows students to participate at their convenience and express their views digitally.
Regular Updates: Provide regular updates on VUSAC's activities through newsletters, emails, and social media. Highlight how student input has influenced decisions to demonstrate the value of their engagement.
Recognition and Incentives: Acknowledging and celebrating students who actively participate in decision-making processes. We could also consider offering incentives or awards to recognise their contributions.
By implementing these strategies, I would aim to foster a culture of active student engagement within VUSAC, ensuring that the council remains accountable, responsive, and representative of the diverse needs and opinions of the students.
I think it would be great if there was an initiative to make VUSAC and the issues that are discussed within more known throughout the Vic Campus. I have noticed that a lot of the people I've talked to regarding my campaign and Victoria College as a whole know very little, or even nothing, about VUSAC and what they do for students (One of my roommates. a vic student, didn't even know VUSAC existed till I told him I was running for councillor).
The best way I think we could accomplish this is if we started outreaching a bit more. We could accomplish this by sending out emails or other forms of communication. We could also advertise VUSAC across the campus a bit more then we currently do.
While I think that there are already many opportunities for students to be involved, whether through attending VUSAC meetings, or joining a commission, in order to engage more students, I think it would be beneficial to allow students to join sub-committees for individual events. This would give them the opportunity to contribute to one event at a time without having to commit their time and energy for the entire year. It would also help alleviate some of the pressure off of VUSAC.
